A trail that combines history and nature

The Liechtenstein Trail is a 75 km long walking trail that covers the entire country, passing through all 11 of the principality’s municipalities. It was opened in 2019 to mark the three hundredth anniversary of the foundation of Liechtenstein and offers an impressive blend of nature, culture and history. Walkers following the trail can discover both the beautiful scenery as well as historic sites and places of interest.

Highlights of the Liechtenstein Trail

While walking the trail there so many interesting places to stop and so many wonderful views to take in. Some of the most remarkable sections and places of interest are:

Balzers:
This town in the south of Liechtenstein is famous for Gutenberg Castle, a well-preserved medieval fortress dominating its surroundings from its hill and offering a spectacular view over the Rhine valley. The castle and surrounding gardens are an ideal place for a break and photo opportunities.

Triesenberg:
Situated 884 metres above sea level, this charming mountain village provides the visitor with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. A visit to the Walser Museum in the village will also tell you more about the Walser people.

Vaduz:
The capital of Liechtenstein is the starting point for many walkers. You can admire Vaduz Castle, the residence of the prince and his family. Although the castle is not open to the public, guided tours of Vaduz and a visit to the Fürstenkino will provide you with interesting insights into the castle and the ruling family.  The National Museum and the Liechtenstein Art Museum are also worth a visit. Vaduz additionally offers no lack of opportunities for you to eat well and fortify yourself before setting out on the next stage of your journey.

Ruggell:

The Liechtenstein Trail of divided into several stages, each of which can be easily covered in a day, thus enabling walkers to explore the trail at their own pace and to fashion their trip to suit themselves. A paradise for bikers

The Liechtenstein Trail is a must for bikers. Whether on a mountain bike or an e-Bike, the well organised and signposted stages provide ideal conditions for an unforgettable biking experience. The trail leads through a variety of landscapes, past idyllic picnic areas and historic sites.

The ability to tackle the tour on e-Bikes so that the longer and more demanding sections of the stages can be managed without so much effort make the trip particularly attractive. The e-Bike charging stations along the route ensure that your batteries are never exhausted.

To get you off to a good start ,the Hotel kommod has a bike room where you can charge your e-Bike as well as find tools and a small workshop. Also, many places to stay along the trail have special facilities for bikes such as bike stands and tools for minor repairs.
